Blythewood Soccer Club: Building Community Through Soccer

Questions about the Club Juniors Recreation

What is Recreational Soccer?
The Blythewood Soccer Club is committed to the long-term development of players.  Every player is different and develops at their own pace.  We offer our Junior program for those ages U4-U14.  They practice with a Coerver Coach at least once a week and play one game.  The older age groups may also have an additional night of training with a parent or other volunteer coach and may have additional games against other local clubs on Saturday if they so choose to participate.   It is all about having fun, getting touches and learning the skills needed later.  Teams at the U11 through U12 levels require at least 12 players registered for us to offer those age groups.

How Do I Register My Child for the Juniors or Recreation Programs?
Typically registration for our Juniors and our recreational offerings are held in June-August for the fall season and in Late December - February for the spring season.  Check back on our website and the club’s social media pages for information about when these enrollment periods officially open.  To find a list of all the club’s program currently open for registration you can visit the registration tab of our website .  If you have trouble or have questions please CONTACT US.

How Are Players Selected for a Team?
The program director and director of coaching divide the teams into equal numbers at their discretion.  Request to be on specific teams are accepted and all effort will be made to make it happen, but not guaranteed

What Equipment Do I Need?
Each player will need to bring a ball and shin guards each night to participate.  It is also highly recommended they bring water of a sports beverage to help keep them hydrated.  Cleats are HIGHLY suggested, but not required.

When Are the Games?
All games for this level are held on Friday evenings, unless otherwise announced.

Is Their Travel Involved?
No.  This is an entirely in-house program played at either Doko Park, the Cobblestone Amenity Center or other local fields.

When Do Practices Start?
Typically practices start in August about the times school starts back for the fall season and March about the time of Daylight savings time kicks in for the spring season.  You should get a notice from the program director or coach a few days  before the start of practices.  We also try to have an organizational meeting about a week before the start and a parents meeting the first week of practices.

Where Does My Players Team Practice?
Most of the Juniors practices will be at Doko Park unless there is a conflict in the park in which case we will move to the Cobblestone Amenity Center, Killian Park or other nearby facility.

Where Will Games Be Played?
Regular league games will be held at Doko Park unless there are conflicts in which they will be moved to the Cobblestone Amenity Center or Killian Park.  Some of the older teams may have additional “bonus” opportunities to play other nearby clubs on the weekend, but that would be on a voluntary basis in addition to any league games.

How Long is The Season?
Each season normally runs about 9 weeks.  The actual season is 8 weeks with up to 8 weeks of games.  The first week we call “bring a friend week” and is actually a bonus week whereby we encourage families to bring a friend or schoolmate that is currently not registered to check us out.

How Many Practices Are There Each Week?
Barring issues with weather teams practice at least once a week for about 50 minutes and play one small sided game.  Especially at the older age groups there may be opportunities for an additional practice with a parent or volunteer coach.

My Player Cannot Make Their Scheduled Night of Training with the Coach from Coerver, what can I do?
Each player is assigned to a training group for purposes of technical training with Coerver.  There are often nights other players in the same age group or one close in age that are practicing.  Coerver typically runs the same training session all week for the same age groups so if needed you are welcome to sit in on the different night.  If you have questions about what nights are best for your player to sit in, please contact us.  If your player wants to repeat a session at one of these other times as long as there are not too many players during that time slot you are more than welcome to do so.  One of the great advantages of training in age groups.

Where and When Will My Child Practice?
This will be set before the start of each season based on the number or players registered.  You will find out something normally the weekend before.  If you have request or conflicts please let us know and we will try to accommodate.  Typically the younger players have the earlier sessions while the older players will be later in the evening. Sessions can start as early as 5:30 (5pm as light becomes an issue in the fall) so please make sure you indicate when registering if your player is not able to practice at 5:30.

What is the Cost for Junior?  Recreation Teams?
That is set each season, but was $100 per season last season. This includes a team shirt.  Check out registration to see the current cost once registration is open.

Are the Cost of Uniforms Included in My Fees?
At this level the cost of the shirt is included in the cost.  We normally play in colored pennies (training vest) on game night to allow us to move players if needed to balance competition or fill needs.

Are the Teams Co-Ed?
Yes, at this age the team are co-ed as physically there is not much difference.

What About Playing Time?
Teams are kept very small with few if any subs and games are designed to maximize player touches so playing time is definitely not an issue at this level.

Can I Request a Specific Practice Day or Time?
Yes, you can always request and all effort will be made to make it work but we cannot guarantee we will be able to honor the request.

Can I Request My Child Be on a Certain Team?
Yes.  Request will try to be honored when possible, but are assigned at the sole discretion of the program director.

What Size Ball Does My Child Need?
U4-U8 use a size 3 ball.  U8-U12 use a size 4 ball and U13 and older use a size 5 ball.
